Snakes In Perth Warning.

The weather in Perth is starting to warm up, and it’s a lovely time to take your dog for a walk. While my wife and I took our dogs for a walk, we came across a dugite snake on the path. This made me realize how important it is for all of us as dog owners to be on the lookout for snakes at this time of the year. As the weather warms up, the snakes will become more active.

The snakes you need to be aware of are Tiger Snakes and Dugites. There are a lot of others that look like snakes but could be legless lizards. In any case, how do you avoid snakes?

The first thing you need to do is stick to the pathways. Keep your dog on a lead and avoid going into dense vegetation and thick grass where the snakes might be hiding.

If you suspect that a snake might’ve bitten your dog, don’t hesitate. Rush to your nearest vet. You usually have less than 30 minutes before the Venom starts to take effect.

At the vet, your dog will be tested to see if it has been bitten. It’ll be put on a drip, given antivenom, and maybe even put on a ventilator to save its life. It is important to be aware of snakes in Perth, but I don’t want to scare you from walking your dog in this beautiful weather. Just be on the lookout, be careful, and avoid going into the thick bush.
